How To Maintain your Carpeting
Between Professional Cleanings
Scripps Ranch, San Diego County

by Richard Midgley, Owner

Maintaining your carpeting properly could prevent voiding your warranty, rapid re-soiling, permanent damage to carpet fibers, permanent stains, and shortened carpet life.

I hope the information below will help you maintain your carpets all year.
Call me if you have any questions!

One of the most critical areas of maintaining your carpeting is to focus on heavy foot traffic areas. Ground in dirt and soil can lead to excessive and irreversible wear and tear on the carpet fibers

And of course another area of focus is what to do about spots and spills. After a spill, you must take action immediately to prevent permanent stains. If you spill red wine, coffee or a number of other staining materials, don't overreact! Stay calm and follow the advice below for spills.

Vacuuming

Vacuum your carpets at least once or twice a week, even more. Vacuuming removes the most damaging soil that can actually cut and slice carpet fibers and lead to premature wear and tear.

Spot Removal

Immediate spot removal is important, but don't overreact! Often, a homeowner will start scrubbing a spill furiously. This can make the situation worse.
The magic word is blot!
If your carpet is new, or if it has sufficient protector on it, plain tap water will remove many spills and spots. For those spots that will not come up easily with water, we recommend a quality spot cleaner.
I will give you a free bottle of my excellent spot cleaner after every cleaning that you can use on tough spots.

Please don't use the foaming carpet cleaners or anything not made specifically for carpet spots.

How to use spot cleaner: apply solution sparingly to white terry cloth, and GENTLY blot into the spot, causing it to wick into the cloth. Never pour spot cleaner directly on the carpet! Please follow the directions on the spot cleaner bottle.
For any spot that you unable to remove, and especially for pet urine and feces, call UK Carpet Cleaning immediately, and we can take care of it.

Carpet Protector

New residential carpets are treated with a coating that guards against stains and resists soil. This carpet protector does not change the beautiful look and feel of your carpets.

Regular foot traffic can wear this important carpet protector off every couple of years, depending on the amount of traffic.

UK Carpet Cleaning can re-apply this treatment right after a professional cleaning. This will return your carpet's protection to what it was when it was new. Spills come up easier, dirt and soil is removed more completely with a vacuum, and professional cleaning is more effective with this invisible protective shield.

Professional Cleaning

Have UK Carpet Cleaning professionally clean your carpets annually. Carpet that is subjected to extreme soiling (pets, children) or particularly high-traffic areas, or carpet installed in homes occupied by persons with allergies or respiratory problems, require increased cleaning frequency.

Proper professional cleaning removes damaging soil from deep within the fibers, and leaves your carpet beautiful, soft, healthy, and clean! All the major carpet manufacturers recommend hot water extraction ( "steam cleaning" ) from a powerful truck-mounted cleaning machine, operated by a trained professional — and Richard from UK Carpet Cleaning exceeds these standards with state-of-the art equipment, training, and decades of experience.

Richard Midgley, owner of UK Carpet Cleaning, is a highly trained professional who has been certified with the highest certification available for carpet cleaners - Master Textile Cleaner. He uses a Complete 10-step Carpet Cleaning Process and a rotary extractor (state-of-the-art equipment) to get your carpets as clean as possible, like new again!
